Theatre has got be spot on when it’s aimed at the pre-school crowd, otherwise you could have a kiddie mini riot on your hands. Or at least lots of bored fidgeting, writes Chloe Coleman.

But there was no inkling of boredom from Tommy (3) and Ruby (2) at the performance of In The Night Garden Live, an age-appropriate, enchanting performance with lots of bright colours, exciting characters and quirky songs that had us all joining in where we could. It actually felt like we were in the garden with the Night Garden regulars.

Igglepiggle, Makka Pakka, Upsy Daisy and all, each come out to introduce themselves to the audience with a little song to get the kids clapping and dancing. Though the mums and dads led the way – Rather too enthusiastically, I might add… The story was simplistic so nobody was getting confused with any convoluted plot – Igglepiggle is looking for Upsy Daisy and finds her at the end when the boat came out to fly across the auditorium and everybody goes to bed. The kids loved the singing and the dancing and a great time was had by all.

In The Night Garden is a lovely little show for little un’s who were all up busting moves for the big finale. And, of course, there is a chance to take photos in the foyer.

Nancy (6) had a chance to go but said, ‘Night Garden is boring’, so make sure your kiddies are age-appropriate for this, otherwise you might still get the kiddie mini riot!
