Every year, since 1975, Plumstead Common hosts a community festival, writes Laura Burgoine…

This year’s Plumstead Make Merry, which is organised by a small team of local volunteers, is set to be bigger than ever. Festival goers can expect a wide range of stalls, an eclectic mix of entertainment –including music, dance, spoken word, drama and stand up comedy- free activities for children, and a traditional fun fair. There’s also a variety of free workshops for people of all ages and a top notch offering of international cuisine.

Always an important event in the Plumstead calendar, the event is increasingly attracting attention from further afield with attendance growing from 5,000, in recent years, to an estimated over 10,000 in 2018.

The organising team consists of just six local residents; volunteers are more than welcome to join the team and/or to steward on the day. All fundraising is done by the team – sponsorship and donations are gratefully received. plumsteadmakemerry.co.uk

Plumstead Make Merry is on Saturday 8 June from 12noon-6pm at Plumstead Common.
