A man named as Britain’s worst boxer has hung up his gloves – to bare knuckle box instead.

‘Rocking’ Robin Deakin was encouraged by Tyson Fury to try the bare-knuckled sport after losing 51-consecutive fights.

The 32-year-old, from Tilbury, Essex, will be fighting without gloves at the 02 in Greenwich on Saturday night.

He will face boxer Connor McIntosh in a 140lb catch-weight – and he’ll be proudly wearing the strapline ‘Britain’s Worst Boxer’ on his shorts.

He had retired from boxing in May, telling fans on Facebook: “I’m announcing my retirement after not being successful and losing brain cells – I can’t take it no more.

“I’m proud to say I at least did something people said I couldn’t.”

The boxer, who was born with a club foot, added that he wanted to sort things out with his girlfriend because boxing was “playing with my emotions.”

He will be encouraged on Saturday night by Kellie Maloney, a boxing promoter and manager.

She shot to fame managing Lennox Lewis when he became the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Tickets for the BKB13 event, which bills itself as “the most exciting night of combat sports in the world” range from about £40-£100.
