A taste of the Appalachians is coming to the community greenhouses in Brockwell Park, writes Hannah Kanik…

The quartet, Idumea, is hosting a concert in Brockwell Park for a night of traditional Appalachian folk music, food and drinks on 14 October.

Idumea, who gets its name from a song in the Sacred Harp tradition of choral music, is known for its chamber music influences and vocal harmony.

The quartet includes Jane Rothfield and Ewan Macdonald on fiddle, Becka Wolfe on viola and Nathan Bontrager on cello.

There will be plenty of ‘Appalachian fare’ including bean soup and cornbread, as well as a bar to serve drinks and snacks.

The event is located between the tennis courts and walled gardens and seating is available. Admission is £10 and organisers advise guests to bring a warm jumper.
