International violinist Philippa Mo returns to The Curtain along with Jakob Kullberg, the maverick cello player, The Open Strings Cello Ensemble from the Royal College of Music, and keeping control, Bjorn Bantock – Conductor.

Philippa, from Rotherhithe, says this of her forthcoming concert: ‘I have LOADS of cellists so it is going to be quite an event! The music is gorgeous – the young players are students at the Royal College of Music – and Jakob Kullberg is back again… We will be playing one of the most powerful pieces of music ever – the Shostakovich concerto for cello, plus one of the most divinely beautiful, Romance for violin by Dvorak.’

All the music played will have new arrangements:

Bloch – 3 Prayers

Tchaikovsky – Nocturne

Dvorak – Romance

Glazunov – Chant du Mènestrel

Sollima – Violoncelles Vibrez!

Shostakovich – Cello Concerto no.1

The Curtain, Curtain Road, Shoreditch on 24th September at 7.30pm. Admission: £20.
