A woman was hit with a machete from behind by a stranger in Charlton yesterday evening.
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward following the attack on Rathmore road at around 7.18pm yesterday (Friday November 16).
The woman, aged in her fifties, suffered a cut to the head after being struck by the machete-wielding thug.
Police and the Ambulance Service attended and took the unsuspecting victim to a south London hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The suspect, who is not known to the victim, is described as being an Asian male, aged in his 30s, of heavy build.
He may be wearing a tanned jacket and made off in the direction of Woolwich Road following the attack.
Police are continuing the trace the machete-carrying suspect but ask anyone with information, or who may have seen the man, to call police immediately.
