Police have released CCTV images of a potential suspect they wish to identify after a woman was ‘sexually assaulted’ having been followed from a night bus in Brixton.
The woman was travelling on the N35 bus in the early hours of Sunday, August 19. She got off at the same stop in Brixton just after 4am.
A man also got off the bus and then followed her at a distance. At Station Avenue, the man is said to have suddenly appeared behind her and pushed her against a wall.
Police say he told the woman he had no money and nowhere to live, and sexually assaulted her before he then fled.
The victim told officers she recognised him as a man who had boarded the bus at Elephant and Castle and made her uncomfortable as he tried to talk to her, telling her she was beautiful.
She described him as between 20 and 25 years old, with a handlebar moustache and around five foot eight.
He wore dark clothing including a hooded top and black cap with a logo in white letters spelling ‘LO’.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Alison Downing, from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, said: “The victim was walking towards her home in the early hours when she was suddenly accosted by this man who had deliberately targeted her after spotting her on the bus they were both on.
“The sexual assault he subjected her to has left her traumatised, and it is very important that we apprehend the man who attacked her.
“We are seeking any witnesses who know who he is or saw him on the N35 bus that night as it travelled through south London.
“If you have any information you think could help our investigation please contact us as soon as possible – all calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
