A 15-year-old Evelyn Grace Academy student has topped Amazon’s bestseller charts with her debut release, Poetic Surds.
Micah Dolphy, of Herne Hill, hit the top spot in Women’s Fiction and number two in Women’s poetry on January 14, the day of release.
The poetry collection is a tribute to her late father, with the young writer bringing it out on his birthday.
“My Dad always had a book with him and I wanted to add to his reading collection,” said Micah, who started writing Poetic Surds when she was 13 years old.
“I’m really excited to be published. I’ve wanted to be an author since I was eight years old.”
A book signing was held at her school on February 8, where she was joined by students, teachers, family and the founder of publishers Conscious Dreams, Daniella Blechner.
“I was absolutely blown away when I met Micah but I didn’t hear anything from her afterwards for awhile. But I kept thinking about her,” said Daniella.
“Then one day, she contacted me and just said – I’m ready to publish now.”
“The poise, grace and humility she speaks with – I’ve never seen that in a fifteen year old,” said Daniella.
Micah, the youngest of two brothers and one sister, plans to publish a book on mental health in 2018 and a third supernatural-themed book – although she doesn’t know when that’ll be.
Evelyn Grace Principal, Devon Hanson, said: “As a school, we are extremely proud of Micah.”
“When Micah brought me a draft of her book and I remember reading it and being completely blown away at how a young person could really convey such emotion through poetry in an eloquent way.”
“She has done a phenomenal job with ‘Poetic Surds’. We wish her all the very best.”
