Police are appealing for help tracing the driver of a ‘dark-coloured VW’ after a woman died in a suspected hit and run in Brixton Hill in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called at half midnight on Saturday, January 12, to the junction of Brixton Hill with Dunbarton Road, after reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian.
Paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance attended but the woman, who was in her early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed but she has not been publicly named by police.
Officers say the driver was travelling at speed and did not stop at the scene. They are now appealing for help from the public to trace the car.
The vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured VW, possibly a Golf, which may have been left with damage to its bonnet.
Witnesses, or anyone with information, should call 101 and reference CAD 183/12 Jan.
