Event Details

This all day, multi-media, reggae festival, will be indoors and out in the fabulous extensive garden ( with full Soundsystem.) It features the great Neville King on the wheels of steel. The renowned producer was born in St James, Jamaica. Neville’s Soundsystem had long residencies in Brixton, Tooting, Peckham and Streatham during the 1970s. During those times he was a mentor to Blacker Dread, Levi Roots and David Rodigan.
Neville King launched his own record label in London in 1976 and quickly struck gold. He issued exceptional roots material by Prince Lincoln and the Royal Rasses and Jacob Miller. Mr King also released his own, original, lover’s rock productions. His works, on the King and City label, by local heroes One Blood are particularly sought after; “Be Thankful” having assumed classic status.
On the decks we will be welcoming back club stalwarts R.A.V. Hi Fi, a.k.a. Mikey and Kingsley. Amongst DDC regulars, their sets are consistently, hugely enjoyed. They are also contributing heavily to the multi- media dimension of this event, which will also feature, film, visual art, Soundsystem threads, records and more in the fabulous garden ( where we will also have a full Soundsystem.)

Our very special guest will be Tessa Pollitt. She’ll be spinning 100% Roots and Culture Reggae in combination style. Tessa was the bassie throughout the career of The Slits, whose seminal 70s LP “The Cut” was produced by Dub-master Dennis Bovell. Tessa draws from a deep love of the music and selects from a collection amassed back in the day. Slits vocalist Ari Up lived for a long time in JA and sent back nuff Dubplate and ting and Tess will be drawing on these too…wow.

We will be blessed by a selection from the inimitable Dubplate Pearl. Pearl is a well respected fixture on the London reggae scene. You name a venue where memorable ravin’ happened and Pearl’s probably played there. She’s spun in combination with most selector’s you could mention too.
Pearl and Tessa were born at much the same time and place and have found they share similar musical tastes, this succession of sets will provide historic contrasts.
Soft Wax has been a Zelig-like figure in the sphere of roots, rock ,rebel music for decades. He has been the resident selector of the Deptford Dub Club since 2013. He has also played out throughout the Capital, across the nation and over the Herring Pond in NYC. Warm up selections will come from popular club stalwarts Natty Nick and Don de Lion. Plus more t.b.c..
Clifford Junior is the operator of the brand new, vintage style, Soundsystem Natural High Power, that we’re going to be using in the garden. He is also a renown selector on the up-and-coming Reggae Roast Sound. We’re looking forward to his early, guest selection.
The great Doc Murdoch will be joining us on the mic over the day, peppering up the rhythms with his distinctive vocal stylings, with songbird Sandiva. Expect the Deptford Dub Club Crew to include full live horns led by Wicked Will Roper on Trumpet, plus percussion. They’ll be joining be joining Soft Wax and Tessa, live and direct on the mic..
The day will run from 2pm to 2am and has been put together by Deptford Dub Club and Drop Da Biscuit. All this FREE B4 9pm and a mere £3 after; a Mid-Summer, Windrush Day, celebration, bonanza.
